Create Flowchart in SmartSheet and Automatically Convert to (SmartSheet)Sheet

Dear SmartSheet team,

I've been reading through your "Essential Tool for BPM", your "Complete Workflow Mapping Toolkit" and your "Workflow Diagram Handbook", which are all great - theoretical - guides. Can you please help me find (a) an example of a complex flow chart (depicting several sales related process steps) and (b) explain (ideally step-by-step) how a SmartSheet sheet gets - ideally automatically - created from that flow chart?

    Hi @Michael at GEHC

I hope you're well and safe!

Not sure I follow! Can you elaborate on the use case/process?

Be safe, and have a fantastic week!

  • Dear Andrée,

I have got a process depicted in Excel using the common Process Diagram Symbols (Step, Decision, Flow Line, etc.). Now I want to important the Excel file and have the SmartSheet software "translate" the Flow Chart Symbols, based on their headers/ names, into a Grid SmartSheet Sheet, in which the different process steps, inputs and outputs become the different tasks and actions.

This way I don't have to manually create a grid view sheet based on the flowchart process.

@Michael at GEHC That is not currently possible. You are going to have to create the Smartsheet from scratch.

It is a good idea though. Feel free to brows the Ideas topic to see if someone has already submitted it as a product enhancement request. If they have then you can add your vote to it. If they have not then you can submit it yourself to let Smartsheet know you are interested in that feature and give others the ability to vote on it.
