Cell Linking to create a drop down list

Has anyone been able to use current functionality in Smartsheet to link to create a drop down list, from an existing filed in another sheet? I am looking to do this, as the other sheet will contain a listing that is the source that is updated, and I would like for my selection on my drop-down list to remain in sync. I can do this in excel, but I am having a challenge in figuring it out for smartsheet.

    I am using an external functionality by On Time Solutions Inc, "DropDown Update for Smartsheet" .Requires monthly subscription. This is the cheapest solution I found, all others are more costly (I do not know about Datashuttle - my understanding is that it did not do what I needed it to do the last time I ran into this problem.

    This external functionality basically creates managed links/relationships between smartsheets where the content of the dropdown menu on sheet A is linked to some table content in a spreadsheet B.

    You are touching a MASSIVE painpoint in the Smartsheet product, raised a few years ago, comes up every year or so, never natively implemented, so only available as workarounds. Massively overdue, and its unavailability is a big reason not to use Smartsheet at all

    Thanks Andree! If I understand the information correctly, Data Shuttle allows for the ability to update a drop-down list where the source of the list in in an existing Smartsheet?

    From what I could read on data shuttle, I was understanding it as of a connection mechanism between an ERP.

    @TanyaM

    Happy to help!

    Yes, but it can also be an Excel sheet or similar.

    I recently developed a solution for a client where multiple Dropdown lists are kept updated using a Master Sheet.

  • @TanyaM You can do this with Data Shuttle! I'm working on putting together a help page on how to do this (and a more official video) but this a short video where I overview how you can do this.
