Dynamic View - Search CTRL F doesn't work

Dynamic View does not have an easy fast way to search. We normally use CTRL+F to find what we are looking for. This does not work unless it's currently loaded on the page.

The filter option works but it takes too much time to set up new filters every time you need to look for something.

I would like CTRL+F to work and if this can't work then a Search bar would be great.

Dynamic Views should have a Find on Page text field. A ctrl+F search only covers what's visible on screen currently, which is useless if you have a lot of data and you need to scroll to find what you're looking for.

Dynamic view is extremely useful for providing secure access to the data, but it's really falls short with user experience with the lack of search functionality. Forcing a user to create filters to search for something in the data is a horrible user experience. Also, setting a filter only allows you to search for data in a specific column and not across the entire dynamic view.

I almost need to drop the dynamic view model for users and just provide them view only access to the sheet itself, which is what I'm trying to avoid.

I've found at least 3 specific requests for this feature, one going back over 4 years, and as a new user of Smartsheet it is very surprising to see that there is no global search function in dynamic view. Are they not able to figure out how to secure the underlying data in the dynamic view? What's the development challenge here?

Please add a global search capability that will search a dynamic view beyond the record on the screen.

This is critical for us in am inventory/catalog like view that users are looking for items existence so they do duplicate already existing engagements .

I went looking to the community for solutions to this. Having a search bar in a dynamic view would be such a benefit. So many external partners use our views and don’t like the browser search or have time to fuss with making their own filters. They want a search bar that narrows down the rows visible until only those that match the search are shown. I’ve also put in an enhancement request for this feature.

Hi @Joe Goetschel - This is a great idea but these external partners are going into the views to see the raw data that doesn't have users assigned to them or it's assigned by different courts (my company vs their company). Being able to just simply type in a search bar at the top right key words and watch the rows filter down in real time to the words added until you find the row would be a powerful tool. Once you hit the (X) or delete your text, then all rows would reappear.

It is the same functionality in the main interface for Dynamic Views where you see all your different views and you type search to narrow down the views that match but just on the individual dynamic view level with source data from a sheet or report.

Looks like the original message was from Dec'22. It's now Sep'24, the search function is still not in Dynamic View. I would really hope there is a Search bar for our user to be able to search. I heavily rely on the Dynamic View to share data with our users and also receive their input. It's been good, but search is a big problem. To solve the problem, we actually had to create a separate PBI dashboard, because Smartsheet Dynamic View is not search friendly.

"This isn't part of our current plan" there have been requests for this for 4+ years. This is obviously an ongoing issue and people are asking for it. It should be part of your past plans but here we are still waiting.

I completely agree with the feedback regarding the current search functionality in Smartsheet. It is highly inefficient to only be able to find items that are currently visible on the screen within a growing tracker.
The current behavior of the Ctrl + F function is inconsistent with how it operates in other Microsoft and Google products, which typically allow for a comprehensive search across the entire document or sheet. Furthermore, having to create a new filter for every search request significantly hinders efficiency. An enhancement to the find feature would greatly improve the user experience and overall efficiency for everyone. I sincerely hope that Smartsheet has plans to upgrade this functionality as soon as possible.
