Number validation in form not allowing dash (-)

This help article states that dash (-) is a permitted character for number validation in a form: https://help.smartsheet.com/articles/2482427?_ga=2.261669517.1481821032.1673447251-1366866786.1665082147

However, my form is NOT allowing that. I'm trying to ensure my team enters the Project ID (not the name as is commonly done). In my sheet, the Project ID is the primary column and therefore is a text/number column. The ID is structured as 1234-123. I tested by creating a text/number column and the form still will not allow a dash. I've also tested by manually typing the number and by copy & paste - neither work.

It is because the dash is in the middle which converts it into a text string. When they say the dash is a valid character, they are meaning as the first character to indicate a negative number.
