Point Automations to Alternate Smartsheets
I like using daily summary automations rows added or tasks marked complete, but the source file where this is tracked can be confusing. I'm looking for a way to run the automation from the source sheet, but have the email include a link to a report, dashboard, or alternate Smartsheet. I could paste the URL in the message, but that URL would be long and unfriendly.

Yes! I just tested this as I was curious if it would work. The full URL works, but so does formatting it as a Hyperlink in the cell:

The only way is to copy/paste the URL. Feel free to submit a product enhancement request when you have a moment though to let Smartsheet know that you are interested in having this capability. I have seen other users here in the Community also requesting something very similar.

There currently isn't a way to hyperlink text in the body of an automated alert message to make it look more friendly; you would need to have the entire URL spelled out in order for it to be a live link. (Please submit your enhancement request to our Product team by filling in this form, here.)
An alternative would be to potentially use a URL shortener like Bit.ly if you wanted the URL to look more friendly. You could also include a helper column in your sheet which contains your Hyperlinked URL behind text, copying this down each row so that the cell will appear as part of the Alert.
Cheers,
Genevieve

@Genevieve P So if I include a column in an alert that has a hyperlink in it, the hyperlink will be maintained in the email that gets sent out?

@Genevieve P Is it possible to include a Sheet Summary field in the header of an automation message so that the desired URL isn't displayed row by row?
-
No, currently Sheet Summary fields aren't included in sheet Automations, but you can hide the column that houses the URL and it will still appear in the alert.

@Genevieve P That's awesome that the hyperlink works! I am definitely going to have to remember that!
