Project Management - How do I create a recurring task within a project task list?
Answers

Hi, @JeremiahHorstick, could I get access to the workspace? I received access to the Recurring Tasks sheet but having trouble with the formulas without the Schedule sheet to refer to for layout. Thanks!
-
@WNA The Schedule Sheet is in the folder.
The workspace contains the 1-sheet recurring task method & the 2-sheet method.
The 1-sheet solution sets recurring dates with a static frequency.
The 2-sheet solutions considers the last time the recurring task was completed setting the next occurrence.

Hello, I just submitted a request to access the workspace. I also have a quick question. Is the workflow different if I want to create recurring tasks or meetings/events without the previously scheduled task/event is done? Any help greatly appreciated.

@JeremiahHorstick Could I get access to this sheet as well? Thank you.
-
@Regenia Sure thing.
Both the 1-Sheet & 2-Sheet Solutions are in this Workspace:
https://app.smartsheet.com/workspaces/f4FWH2RFqxwwJ4WhGg4jmjgg9MFhwGV3C32HPQM1
The 1-Sheet solution is copied annually, considers week days, 1st of month, end of month, Q's (All dates are in one sheet)
The 2-Sheet considers that last time a task was complete before scheduling the next task.

@lokidamenace You can use the core Smartsheet application Automation to copy a row at a custom time interval without any additional logic.

@JeremiahHorstick thank you! going to try this out now. I've requested access to your eaxamples. I will also try your 1 sheet solution

@JeremiahHorstick two questions 1. for the 2-sheet solution, if a recurring task is assigned to someone, do they enter the date completed on the scheduled tasks or the recurring task list? I would like to know that the monthly task is completed, say for example our monthly newsletter was sent out for August and now it is on the Sept. not completed task list. 2. For the 1-sheet solution, where is the formula you inserted for the dates?
We have lots of recurring tasks and I am not sure I want my weekly tasks in my huge project management sheet- make sense?

Hi @JeremiahHorstick , would you be able to grant me access as well? Thank you!

@Tentran All you need to do is follow the link and request access with Smartsheet: https://app.smartsheet.com/workspaces/f4FWH2RFqxwwJ4WhGg4jmjgg9MFhwGV3C32HPQM1

Thanks. I tried that link from my smartphone last night and the browser did not show a request access button. But from my PC it does. Requested access! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

@JeremiahHorstick Thank you for sharing the sheets. I have been trying to get them to work with the PDF you shared and putting other examples in, however I cannot get the Last Completed and Open boxes to populate on the Recurring Tasks Sheet (first image). I manually ran the automation multiple times and now see Task 1 listed multiple times in the Schedule Sheet (second image). Do you have any walk through instructions or a YouTube that shows how we populate these columns to make them work on our own?
