Child rows not showing up in document builder invoice

I have parent and child rows, Child rows are for itemized invoice. It has the product description its quantity and that child row's total. However when running the document builder(Into Invoice PDF) those child row's itemized descriptions are not showing up in the document builder. This video is exactly what I am looking for.

See below He has a row of customer and the itemized items under each of them under child rows.

Then when he generates an invoice he gets those same itemized items displayed when he runs the document builder. What am I missing?I got everything else on his video, besides this !

It sounds like you may be missing a step to reference the child rows in the document builder. In Smartsheet, you need to make sure that the child rows are included in the layout for the document builder. You can do this by specifying the parent row and selecting the "Include all child rows" option in the document builder settings. Additionally, you need to make sure that the columns containing the itemized information (e.g., product description, quantity, and total) are included in the layout as well.

This option to include all child rows in the document builder can typically be found in the document builder settings or options menu.

Can you share a screenshot? I cannot find it anywhere, nor does it show up on google etc.

Select the parent row that contains the child rows you want to include in your document.
Go to the "File" menu and click on "Export & Send."
In the Export & Send options, select "Build Document."
In the Document Builder, select the layout you want to use for your document.
In the "Row Range" section, select the "Include all child rows" option.
Make sure the columns containing the itemized information (e.g., product description, quantity, and total) are included in the layout as well.
Finally, select the format for your document (e.g., PDF, Word, etc.) and generate the document.

Hi @Shashank Singh

Document Builder evaluates rows on a row-by-row basis. This means that when you generate a document from a specific row, even if that row is a parent row, it cannot bring in other row data at this time.

I'm guessing that Rich has some clever formulas in his sheet that pull up Child Row information into the Parent row in that black cell, so you can't see the text in the sheet but it shows in the Document.

This is exactly what I have been trying to solve for 36 hrs now. Has anybody figured this out? I need the Payment items with price on multiple lines. Please HELP!!!!

You'll have to either:

Add more columns, split the information out in them, and update the Document Builder
Split the information out on different rows but in the same cell

Make sense?

Hi Andree, thanks for getting back to me. Not sure what you mean by this:

Split the information out on different rows but in the same cell

do i have to make new columns that will copy children inputs into new cells in parent row?

I believe @Andrée Starå is referring to what I have shown in my image above, where in the Parent row it shows:

"Child 1 space Child 2"

=JOIN(CHILDREN(), CHAR(10))

This would be a formula in the Parent row that joins together the child cell contents.
