Desktop app now generally available
Hi Community,
Focusing on work in Smartsheet is challenging when you have multiple browser tabs open at once. It’s easy to lose track of which browser tab has the Smartsheet item you need, get distracted by non-Smartsheet tabs, and lose momentum.
That’s why we released the new Smartsheet desktop app! Use the desktop app to access Smartsheet right from your device’s taskbar, organize your Smartsheet items in tabs, stay up to date with notifications, and work without the distractions of multiple browser tabs.
The desktop app is available to licensed users on all plan types and free trial users in the Commercial US region. Please note that while EU region customers can download and use the Smartsheet desktop app, the app experience is not optimized for EU customers. Full, optimized support of the desktop app experience for EU customers will be officially made available in the future.

Great.
When the desktop app is closed down and PC restarts all tabs are closed in the app. Can this be changed. I have a regular set of tabs that I always have open on browser start up.
-
On Mac desktop, last tab set open reopens on startup. I like it but prefer to have start up tabs settings so I always have the same set on startup.
Additionally, a browser still has this beat until I can open tabs in separate windows.
I worked in it for a full day and it seems great and functions just like chrome except for the things i mentioned above.
PS: Load times do lag but hopefully that resolves soon
I do like having a separate desktop app to reduce my browser tab population.
-
Major downfall for me is the inability to open multiple tabs at once.
-
I like the app, but a few more customizations might be handy as it develops over time.
- Option to open multiple instances for side by side workflow (if/when the user does not have admin control
- Option to re-open closed tabs
- Option to specify what happens when selecting "open new tab" (I often want to open it, but keep focus on the existing tab and not move focus immediately to the new tab)
-
I am not sure if it is my PC or not, but the desktop app sometimes freezes and cannot do click any nor close the app. I have to use task manager to close the app. I like the accessibility but now I am back on the browser mode.
-
I really like the Desktop App, it is easier to keep track of open tabs on the bottom of the screen, I have opened it on Windows but have not had the chance to open it on a Mac
Its a great app and has helped productivity by a lot

Yep, need multiple instances....
...It'd be worth knowing if the performance/speed is better than on a browser too. It appears to be similar.

I downloaded the app. I have the same complaints as the above people. I uninstalled the app, and my smartsheet login is still looking for the app. How do I stop this?
-
Another member resolved this by removing the associated browser extension (see here). Let us know if that helped!

@PeterR - Are you still experiencing this? Please check to see if you're on our GA version of the Smartsheet desktop app (v1.0.26) or higher by going to Help>About Smartsheet. These versions have "persistent tabs", i.e. the tabs in your previous session should reload when you log back in.

@Seanfo @Mike Wilday @GrantHarvey @Roland Horwood - The Product and Engineering are currently exploring the multi-window capability for the desktop app.
-
Thanks for sharing your feedback, Grant! I'll pass this over to the Product and Engineering teams.

Hi @Makiko Joans - can you please check to see if your PC matches these requirements?
We are supporting Windows and Mac (see technical disqualifiers below for the supported versions).
- Windows: If you do not have Windows 10 version 21h1 or above
- Mac: If you do not have Mac x64 or M1 version 12 or above
- If you have less than 500 MB disk space
- If you have less than 300 MB RAM, then we recommend upgrading to a 1.6 GHz or faster processor or 1 GB RAM in order to use the desktop app
- If you use Linux operating system
-
Thank you.
It looks like my spec met the criterias sufficiently, however, I also received the suggestion from Smartsheet to perform the updates (I forgot what exactly what it was for) on WIndows, and it seems to be working fine since then. Thank you for your supports.

No, this has been resolved thanks
