Automatically adding new columns when customer fills out an order form
Basically, I am trying to create an order form for a customer to fill out and then we will view in Grid view. Basically, at this point, I have it laid out as the ss below. I want there to be an option to select how many items they will be needing, or add on as they think of them if possible. I only have these 3 rows which are applicable to ONE item. I would technically like this column to duplicate if they added more items. How would I go about formulating this? LMK if you need more info. Thanks so much!

The only way to do this would be to create these fields in advance. You can use a dropdown column with numbered options and logic within the form to only show the first (for example) 3 sets of fields if they selected 3 in the initial dropdown, but that is the only way to get it done and keep the form looking clean.

There are many ways you can customize your Smartsheet form based on your need. Here's the basics for creating a form, let me know if you have specific issues with creating it the way you want:

Hello Melissa,
I want to be able to automatically duplicate fields in a form when the customer needs to. For example, on opening form there would be a field that says "Item Number" and if they want to add another item they can click a plus icon or something of that ilk.

Okay. This sounds like exactly what I am trying to do. What would the general formula(s) look like to accomplish this?

It wouldn't be formulas. You would create the columns on the sheet which in turn create the fields in the form. Then you would use the logic built into the form to show or hide fields based on the selection made in the dropdown.

It seems that there would need to be a formula in order to tell the form that IF "# of Items" = "3" than show columns 4-9 or something like that. I am unsure though.

Oh, never mind. I just figured out the logic aspect of it. Thanks so much for your help!

Glad you were able to get it sorted. I was just looking for the SS help article that delves into form logic.
