define user
Hello,
I have a specific cell. When a value is entered into this cell, the person who entered the value should fill out a form from another sheet. I've tried to implement this through a workflow, however, in my sheet are many editor columns as there are different roles in a row, so it's not possible to define who should receive the notification based on that. And it is not desired to define the user manually because there is already many rows and i want to keep it simple and automated. Is there a way to track the user entering the value into the specific cell so that I can send them a notification? Thank you.

Hi @Sabrain
I hope you're well and safe!
Would there be multiple editors simultaneously as that cell is populated?
I hope that helps!
Be safe, and have a fantastic week!

Yes there can be several users that change the cell entry and those ones should be tracked and get the notification/request to fill out a form
-
Could someone else work on other parts and make changes to the sheet at the same time?

yes there are many users working in the different parts of the sheet and often at the same time (but its unlikely that they will press save at the exact same second)
-
Excellent!
Please have a look at my post below, which contains a method I developed. This could be used to store the change immediately at save and then have it trigger the form to send.

Make sense?
Would that work/help?

Thank you for the quick response.
As i understand it, i can store the value from my specific cell, where various people could work in.
But i want to get the names of the users which make entries into this cell. It does not matter that the cell entry changes. I want to send an automated message to the users that make changes/entrys into this cell.
Thank you,
Sabrina

and i tried it with collecting the name in the helper sheet, but it does not show the name but only "automation@smarthseet.com"

It should work!
Can you share some screenshots? (Delete/replace any confidential/sensitive information before sharing) That would make it easier to help.

There is my automation which says "if a cell is changed-> copy the row into my helper sheet"
In my helper sheet i tried to collect the information of the triggering user
I made a column type "changed by" andl also "created by", which both only collect "automation@smartsheet.com, but not the actual username

You must add a contact column in the main source sheet referencing the Modified By column.
Something like this. =[Modified By]@row and then make it a column formula.
That will show who modified the row.
Make sense?
Did that work?
