Dropdown list but add logic

I have a column that is dropdown list. I want to add logic to prefill some of the cells based on a value in another column (via a formula) while leaving the rest of the cells unaffected so they can be manually changed.

For example, my dropdown is "approved" and "denied". I want to auto fill some of the cells to "N/A" so they are not actioned.

Can this be done? I can do this via conditional formatting but that just allows for formatting, not data.

Hey @KimTDSYN,

To clarify, you want cells to be filled or not filled based on the dropdown list? You can use column formulas for the cells that you want to autofill based on the dropdown:

=IF([Dropdown List]@row = "Approved", change cell to x, change cell to y)

This is an example of a formula that could be converted to a column formula based on the Dropdown list cell

I can't put a formula in the cell because then the dropdowns go away.

I want a formula to do an initial update but allow others to still manually pick a value from the dropdown. I'm basically trying to prefill "N/A" for some cells so nobody accidentally actions it.

You could use a Workflow to change the value, and then it would be possible to update it.
