Recording the Date when a Status changes in a column

Hi,

I am looking to build reports on how long it took for a status to change into another status. I have read some of the previous solutions; record a date automation, but it seems like this isn't working for me.

When I am trying to create the automation it gives me only one option in the "record a date in" > "select a date column". I have created a new column with "date" value, but it doesn't seem to appear as an option.

Has anyone had this happen before?
