I would like to suggest that Smartsheet prioritise the introduction of a native SCIM (System for Cross-domain Identity Management) connector for Google Workspace.
Currently, Smartsheet offers excellent SCIM support for Okta and Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD). However, for organizations that utilise Google Workspace as their primary Identity Provider (IdP), the options for automated user lifecycle management are much more limited.
Why this is a priority for Enterprise users:
- Operational Efficiency: Managing users, groups, and licenses manually (or via custom API scripts) is a significant overhead for IT Departments. A native Google SCIM integration would allow for seamless, "set-and-forget" provisioning.
- Function: No centralised Role assignment capability from within Google Workspace, so the roles must be managed within Smartsheet. There is also no native "Group Push", so we can't sync Google Groups to Smartsheet Groups. (In MS Entra, it seems to be able to sync Entra Groups directly to Smartsheet Contact Groups, and it pushes an extensive amount of Profile Attributes like Department, Job Title, and Manager.
- Security & Compliance: Native SCIM allows for real-time deprovisioning. When an employee leaves the organisation, their access is revoked instantly across all platforms. Relying on manual syncs or third-party workarounds creates a window of risk.
- Scalability: As organisations in the AU and global markets scale their Smartsheet usage, the friction of manual user management becomes a barrier to adoption.
While the existing Google "Auto-provisioning" via API token is available, a standardised SCIM integration would bring Google Workspace users to parity with other major IdP users, offering a more robust and secure enterprise experience.
I would love to see this added to the official product roadmap to ensure Smartsheet remains the most IT-friendly work execution platform on the market.
