Is it possible to count a Blank Cell only text is filled out in another cell?

Currently I'm using this formula =COUNTIF(Status:Status, "") to summarize all the blank cells in the Status column.

The issue is that it also counts the Status cells that are just blank rows at the bottom of the sheet. Is there a way to count only the blank Status cells if there is also information populated in the Activities column?

Hi Jeffrey,

Try this.

Edit: Updated the formula because I misread it.

You'll need a helper column (in this example it's named Blank)

This formula you need to put in the whole Blank column.

=IF(ISBLANK(Activities@row); 1; 0)

The same version but with the below changes for your and others convenience.

=IF(ISBLANK(Activities@row), 1, 0)

This is the formula for counting the total empty cells were the Activites column isn't empty.

=COUNTIFS(Status:Status; ""; Blank:Blank; 0)

The same version but with the below changes for your and others convenience.

=COUNTIFS(Status:Status, "", Blank:Blank, 0)

Depending on your country you’ll need to exchange the comma to a period and the semi-colon to a comma.

You could also use a COUNTIFS. Something along the lines of

=COUNTIFS(Activities:Activities, ISTEXT(@cell), Status:Status, ISBLANK(@cell))

Just a different approach to accomplishing the same goal.
