Links in Templates?

How do you make a link in a template?

 

I am designing a system that uses a to-do list for each new transaction - the blank to-do list is stored as a template.

 

There are three columns on the template.

 

1.  The item to do

2.  The status control (done / not done)

3.  Links back to another sheet with detailed information about how to execute each of the to do items.

 

When I create a new to-do sheet from the template, the links are are blown.  What gives?

    Hi Jeremy-- We don't currently support saving cell links in templates--is this what you're referring to by links? This is because you couldn't have multiple sheets linking to the same destination cells. As a workaround, you might consider leaving the sheets as actual sheets, rather than templates, and putting the sheets involved in the template into a folder in a Workspace. When users copy the folder, it'll give them the option to preserve the cell linking pattern between the newly create source and destination sheets. They can move the folder into their own Sheets directory or another Workspace, if desired.

    One source, many desitnations.  The source sheet is the CMS or Document Library and is a single instance.  The ToDo sheets are multiple instances.

     

    The idea is to give users of the ToDo sheets technical help by being able to click the links and jump to the CMS.

    While not a link to a specific row, I often use the Hyperlink feature to get me to the sheet of concern.

    For your case, what I would likely set up is a CMS directory sheet with the attachments / guides there or links to them elsewhere if stored in Dropbox etc..

    I'd give each user the link to the directory sheet and have them bookmark it in the browser.

    Even better if the how-to is stored in a wiki, then I would just add the link to the wiki page instead of document.
