Forcing Comment on Status Change
We have a column that is formatted with several options in a drop-down menu that indicates the status of a particular line item/card. I would like there to be some sort of pop-up that would force the user to add a comment to the line to when a certain status is selected. Is that possible?

Umm... my first impression is - no, not possible.
As a workaround you could use some sort on conditional formatting to highlight a row where status X has been selected but the comment isn't updated. I'm not sure exactly what this would look like, as a stab you could use the 'last comment column' feature and 2x record date columns one triggered when status X is selected and the other triggered when the latest comment changes and the your conditional formatting rule would be if date A <> date B, then highlight.
I dunno, someone else might have a better idea.

Hi @ychang
I hope you're well and safe!
Unfortunately, it's not possible now, but it's an excellent idea!
Here's a possible workaround or workarounds
- Have conditional formatting and a formula showing instructions that they need to add a comment and combine it with a workflow that would trigger if they don't fill it in, and it could send an update request for them to add it afterward.
Make sense?
Would that work/help?
I hope that helps!
Be safe, and have a fantastic week!

I don't know if this is the workaround I'm looking for, but I'm going to try it out and see what it does. This will be an exercise to help me learn Smartsheet a bit more. Thank you!
