Column Type Reverts to Text


I initially created a Text column with a formula to extract the Month and year from a date from another column. When using this column in a report, I found that Text type will not recognize year when sorting so I changed all the columns to Dates. I'm talking about 14 different sheets here.

I've found that every time a sheet is updated, the column reverts to Text which then results to changes in the report as well. I've seen in other posts that this appears to be a known issue since 2018. Does that sound right and is there an easier work-around by now aside from the one from 2018?
