Change Permissions for Specific Items in Workspace

Hello all,

Can we change permissions for a folder inside the Workspace?

We have given Editor access to the workspace to some people and we would like for those to change their permission to Commenter for the folder we have created.

How could we achieve this?

Turns out we accomplished what we needed. We changed the Permission of the Workspace to Viewer and then added permissions of Editor to the items we wanted inside said folder. It was an easy proccess but took time as we had to add the sharing permissions to each item separately.

Unfortunately, it's not possible now because you can't change the permission on a folder, and also, you can't have lower permission on an individual item in a Workspace (the Workspace sharing permission if higher would be active for all items), but it's an excellent idea!

Please submit this as a Product Feedback or Idea (If it hasn't been added already) when you have a moment.

I'm having the same issue. I need a group to have Editor (cannot share) access to a specific sheet within a workspace, but Commenter access to everything else in the workspace. Every time I update the sheet permissions, that Group automatically gets upgraded to Editor for all of the other assets in the workspace. Is there a workaround for this?

How are you adding the permissions?

I personally find it easiest to do it directly from within the sheet, with the sheet open 🙂

That way I can select just the sheet, versus the Workspace, to share:

Yes @Genevieve P. - I am updating from there, but then it is automatically upgrading the access to the entire workspace. Is there a solution for this?

Is it possible that instead of re-adding the group for a second time in this Share Sheet window, you're adjusting the dropdown option that's actually a reference to the Workspace sharing?

You should see the group or individual listed twice - once with a sheet icon and once with a workspace icon. If you only see the workspace icon, then the group needs to be added for a second time using the bar above. Does that make sense?
