Add ability to block users or permission levels from exporting for PHI/HIPAA

It would be really great if in the security controls or even admin user settings to be able to block the ability to export sheets (to excel or anywhere else) the user is shared to to help protect PHI/HIPAA. There is currently not a way to do this without changing their permission level and users still need to be able to edit the sheets.

My organisation does not operate within the PHI/HIPAA context but this feature would have wider benefits for data security as a whole.

For example, an editor to a Report, who requires access to the source sheet, can download the source sheet as an Excel file and unhide any hidden columns to view the data inside. This is an incredibly dangerous possibility given that we only want editors to view and provide information for specific rows in their Report and not the entirety of the source sheet.

Would love to see this added as a feature as it will increase the capabilities of Smartsheet and build confidence in the security of data on the platform, gaining traction and usage among staff, etc.

Hello! There are a few ways to accomplish this, the easiest with Dynamic View. You can give someone access to edit information, while controlling what the can see and what read only and can't changed. https://www.smartsheet.com/marketplace/premium-apps/dynamic-view

To your point about exporting, definitely would want to make sure the person with admin access is the appropriate person to see all of infoemation on she sheet.

Alternatively you could talk to your account team about advanced security features like data egress and retention policies. Take a look at the andavced egress capability- restricts the export ability. https://help.smartsheet.com/articles/2482620-data-egress-policy

The Premium App, WorkApps, would solve this, and as Tim mentioned, Dynamic View is another solution.
