Web content pages in WorkApps
I have been exploring WorkApps and I have been able to setup Smartsheet Content Pages, Create roles, add users and set permission for the Smartsheet Content Pages. Love this, but when I try to add Web content pages I am unsuccessful.
- I give the web content a name & add the web content link (example I added YouTube as page name and placed https://www.youtube.com in the web content link) the image box displays a grey box with a document icon with a sad face. I clicked 'Next', give viewer permissions to some of the roles, clicked 'Add'. The screen is showing YouTube in the header bar and then a large grey box with the document icon with a sad face and underneath the document icon with the sad face it states "www.youtube.com refused to connect" I then clicked 'Publish draft'. When I preview I get the same thing Grey box, document icon with sad face.
- I give the web content a name & add the web content link (example I added Teams Channel as page name and placed https://teams.microsoft.com/l/team/19%3aWAjiev4tw1Hguv6Jaju18QUL1dnQD2hSezRaS9NGbQs1%40thread.tacv2/conversations?groupId=ff9b07cf-5683-4725-95ac-49168a7ac80a&tenantId=7b6f35d2-1f98-4e5e-82eb-e78f6ea5a1de in the web content link) I get "This domain has been restricted by your account. Please reach out to a System Admin on your account for further assistance." I clicked 'Next', give viewer permissions to some of the roles, clicked 'Add'. I then clicked 'Publish draft'. When I preview I get the same thing Grey box, document icon with sad face.
What can be placed in web content?

Hi @Jclifton
Here's an article that you may find helpful:
For Youtube, you need more than just the URL, you'll need to get the Embed Code - the steps are linked in the article above.
In regards to adding a Teams Channel, I don't believe this is a type of web content that can be embedded, but I'd love to be proven wrong! Enterprise plans can allow specific company domains as supported sources for the web content widget (and Workapps) by validating those domains and checking the Include domains box. (See: Admin Center: Set security controls for your account) I'm not certain that the Teams link counts as a "company domain" but it's worth a try - let me know if this worked for you.
Cheers,
Genevieve

I am having the same challenge. I'm able to add a link to SharePoint site on a dashboard, but that same link gives me the error above in a Workapp.

That's all fine and dandy, I understand now that you can't link to web pages, you have to technically embed it and use the embed code.
But why on earth is the error message so useless to the solution? Like it's confusing and misleading to the user, and can potentially waste several people's time including the system administrator.
