Increase design abilities on dashboards

I am working to create an interactive org chart on a dashboard page. So far I have laid out my individuals within the organization, noted their names and titles, linked their photos to job descriptions and contact info, but I would really like to add lines to show hierarchy and even add background shapes to group the teams together. It would essentially be adding some Visio technology but I think that would provide so much more opportunities with flow charts.
