WorkApps: Different report filters for different roles

When using WorkApps to provide restricted access to data, it would be great if we use that same report across different roles by apply different filters. This would allow us to use a single report for the WorkApp instead of creating lots of identical reports.

Situation

  • I have data from different departments that I want to show to each department.
  • The departments must only have access to their own data.
  • All departments should see their data in the same format.
  • We use single sign on so a generic user cannot be used.

Current solution

  • Use WorkApps to ensure users can only access their own data.
  • Create multiple version of the same report.
  • The only difference in each report is a different value for department filter.
  • Any change in reporting requirements means we have to change every version of the report.

Proposed solution

  • Use WorkApps to ensure users can only access their own data.
  • Create one version of the same report.
  • Set the department filter under the WorkApp role for the report
  • Any change in reporting requirements means we only have to change a single report
