Forms on the android mobile app - text fields have no 'enter' option?

We are using forms to collect data, including addresses within text/number fields.

Users are saying that they are having to put whole addresses on one line as they have no option on their phones to hit 'enter' and drop down to the next line.

I have tested this on the PC app and have had it tested on Iphones and it works fine so does seem to be limited to the android mobile app.

The below example was done on the PC app - you can clearly see that line breaks are as expected.

However, on android, the 'enter' button is replaced by this 'tick', which just 'completes' the field you're in and deselects it.

Is this a bug or a deliberate thing on Smartsheets part?

Thanks in advance to anyone who may be able to assist with this.

    Hi @Ash Hill

You're correct - the enter button on an Android moves the form to the next field instead of creating a line within a multi-line text box. You can either keep typing in the same box (for example, use helper text to suggest using commas between address lines) or use the web version of Smartsheet instead.

I have to admit I'm not sure if adjusting how the enter value in an Android works something that Smartsheet has control over, but to raise your concern to the Product team, please submit your feature request by creating an Idea Post in the Smartsheet Product Feedback and Ideas topic here in the Community.

    Cheers,

This behavior has been there for awhile, and has been reported to Smartsheet before as an apparent bug, months or years ago... Definitely an issue with Smartsheet app, specific to Android version and Forms. Sounds like unintended behavior if the other app versions behavior different.

Big pain point in our organization as we have to assign a person to post-editing data that comes in from forms to on a PC. Kind of defeats the purpose of the form.

Attached screenshots come from Android 14, and are from the same exact sheet, entering data into the same field (aka Column). The first is entering data directly into Sheet Row/Card, the second is the Form.

You can see how we've inserted a bunch of space filling characters into the default text to try to mitigate the lack of the "enter" button in the form. Our users have found this confusing and so more or less resist using the form from Android phones.
