Workflow "Customized Message" not displaying in Alert

I have a workflow triggered by date (daily at 5pm) that has a "customized message" set up. However, the customized message is not displaying in the resulting alert, which simply states "Reminder: Name of Sheet."

Today one came through correctly although I have made no changes.

The only thing I can figure is that the custom message only works when there is just ONE row being reported on. As soon as there are multiples, the custom message turns into "Reminder: Name of Sheet."
