Copy Certain Row Cells to New Sheets

Options

Good morning! I came across this thread (https://community.smartsheet.com/discussion/92237/copy-specific-columns-from-one-sheet-to-another-linked) but it doesn't look like it's had any traction since early 2023. I'm hoping this is still something that is in the works and figured I'd see if anyone has come up with any work arounds since then.

I'm going to be building out a tracker for our escalations which needs to be a snapshot in time. With this in mind, using the cell linking functionality won't work as it would change my tracker once the fields tracked are changed from escalated to something else. However, in my tracker, I don't need nearly as many fields as the source data so just using the Copy Row functionality won't work for my use case either.

Does anyone have any thoughts or workarounds? Or should I put in an enhancement request?

~Jaime

To my knowledge what you want is not possible however if you use the copy row function once it has copied the first row you can hide the columns you don't want shown on the other sheet.

    Hi @Jaime Ciabattoni

I hope you're well and safe!

You could use cross-sheet formulas combined with either a VLOOKUP or INDEX/MATCH structure to connect the sheets, and when you update the source sheet, it will reflect on the destination sheet.

Another option would be to use so-called helper sheets. In short, copy the row to a helper sheet and then use my method described previously to get the values you need to another helper sheet and then copy/move the row from that sheet to the main destination sheet.

    Would that work/help?

    I hope that helps!

Be safe, and have a fantastic week!

    Hi @Andrée Starå!

I may be wrong wrong, but it seems like your solution would update live as the source data changes. Is that correct? Since I am looking for a snapshot of time, I need a solution where the data in my Escalation Tracker will not change as the source data is updated.

Please let me know if I'm misunderstanding!

    @Jaime Ciabattoni

    Happy to help!

No, you can use it without it being connected to the main sheet.

    Make sense?
