SS Project Plan: Auto adjust start/end date based on Resource vacation time

Hi, I have a project with Work Breakdown schedule, that has tasks assigned to resources. Our PMO policy is very strict in the way resources are allocated to tasks i.e., no resource should have more than 1 task assigned to them for the/within the same duration. This also includes vacation time. Coming from MS Project, there is a feature in there where adding vacation time against a specific resource will auto adjust the end date to accommodate for the duration and the vacation time off

For example:

Task 1 - Assigned to Resource A

  • Duration: 10 days
  • Original Start Date: 4/1/24
  • Original End Date: 4/10/24

Vacation Planned for : 5 days 4/5/24 - 4/9/24

  • New Duration: 15 days
  • New Start Date: 4/1/24
  • New End Date: 4/15/24

The same is applicable if the start date falls at the start of or within the planned vacation time

    When vacation time is scheduled for a resource, to do Automatic adjustment of task durations in Smartsheet you have to develop custom solution and there. 

    is not direct way to manage at this time.

    Building a fully automated custom solution within Smartsheet itself to adjust start/end dates based on vacations is quiet challenging is what I learnt.

  • I too have been struggling in preparing/tracking the project, since Smartsheet doesn't auto-adjust the dates when a resource is on PTO. The only feature is to mark non-working on the whole project itself. Working with diverse teams across different geographies makes tracking the project difficult, since a holiday in one country may not be a holiday in another.

    It's been a loooong time since this feature to mark PTOs at a resource level was requested.
