Dynamic view without sharing underlying sheet

Having to grant access to the underlying sheet renders this useless for many applications.

One application as an example - I was hoping to use it to give supervisors access to their employees' records so that we could keep all conversations and attachments in one location. But this would have given them access to all employee files (including their own).

Did you mean to say "Report" instead of Dynamic View? Dynamic Views are built to allow access to specific rows without sharing the underlying sheet 🙂

I am referring to Dynamic View. I am hoping I am doing something wrong. The issue is I have to share the underlying sheet otherwise they can't view just specific rows.

Hi @Jack N.

With Dynamic View you don't need to share the underlying sheet. What I would do here is set up a column with the Contact of each supervisor on their appropriate row.

Then you can use the first page setting of the Dynamic View to limit their view to rows that they're assigned to:

The crux of the issue is that I am not able to @mention people in the comments unless they are shared the underlying sheet. That makes working within DV useless.

Thank you for clarifying! You're correct, the @mention feature is specific to the core Smartsheet application, so the user would need to be shared to the sheet to receive that alert.
