Enable Cross Sheet References to work with Sheet Summary

I check with Smartsheet to see if this was possible and it is not. I've submitted an enhancement request. Support suggested I post the idea to the Community so folks could "like/vote for" the idea.

If by chance someone knows how to do this...reference sheet summary values from another grid, or between sheet summaries on different grids, or from a sheet summary to a grid, then please let me know.

Thanks!

Jim

Yes! I would love to be able to use cross sheet references in Sheet Summaries! There are many calculations that I have to create a separate Metrics sheet for when using sheet summary would be so much simpler!

    Hi @James Fischer,

The main 'workaround' for this is within the 'source' sheet with the Summary Sheet field, create a hidden helper column that simply references the Sheet Summary field as an "=[Summary Field]#" column formula. Then in the destination sheet, create a cross-sheet reference to the first row of the source sheet hidden helper column.

  • That is certainly roundabout, but I can see how it would work. Was hoping for something a bit more "direct", but this would certainly work. Thanks for the suggestion! ~ Jim

I just hit this wall … building dashboards and calculating metrics, trying to keep sheets "clean" so that rows are complete records without additional columns that don't belong in the record. Would LOVE the ability to create a formula in Sheet A that pulls the Sheet Summary field calculations in Sheet B.

I'm glad for the suggestion and confirmation that there is not a way to do this at this time.

  • We are just able to refer from other sheet cells, when we click to reference from other sheet, there would be an option like cell/sheet reference or summary field reference from other sheets,

we are able to use summary field reports but we can't use formulas on the reports. with this enhancement we will be capable to use formulas on sheet which is collected summary fields from other sheets

thank you but that is not what I ment. of course, you can use "references another sheet" in summary field. but you can't bring a summary field from another sheet to your sheet. when you transfer your summary field value to the column or cell in your sheet, in that case you can transfer that value to another sheet. But it is not efficient.
