Edit in Proofing
What would you suggest to a customer who is looking to use the proofing tool to collect comments and request approval but would also want to be able to make changes to the word document without having to leave Smartsheet?
At the moment they have to go out of Smartsheet, find the document in Sharepoint and edit the document.
Alternatively they would like to be able to download the document with comments made. Can you confirm that this is not possible?
Thanks

You need to attach the document directly in Smartsheet rather than using a Link type "attachment" to Sharepoint. It's the same for Google Drive… if you "attach" a Drive file then you're really just creating a link to that file. When someone clicks on it, they go to the link rather than opening the document itself inside Smartsheet.

Hi @AmelieAtInvoka,
Based on how our proofing tool currently works in Smartsheet, it essentially is an “interactive layer” on top of the file, which is how we can leave annotations. Because of this, we can’t edit or interact with the word document directly. Additionally, we cannot download the document with the comments.
Could you please share more details about how you were hoping to use the proofing tool in this case?

@Rebeca S. Our customer would like to be able to carry out all their tasks within the sheet in Smartsheet.
Upload the doc > make comments > make the changes to the doc > approve the doc > mark the doc as complete > share the doc with stakeholders.
It's the editing part of the document that is missing, it's almost as if the sheet should new a new section where this would be possible (Microsoft word integration perhaps). -
My team would like to be able to house Word docs in Smartsheet and collaboratively edit them, in Smartsheet, with all the usual Word editing functions (deleting, adding, changing font, tracked changes, leaving comments). Currently I only see a way to paint things on the Word doc, which is useless if we are trying to create a finished product. Also annoying that once a doc is converted to proof, it cannot be changed back to a doc. Will Smartsheet be adding this functionality?
