Dashboard canvas size conversion

(Sys Admin) Custom welcome, help and upgrade screens are set to a 970 pixel width.
I have created my custom screens as dashboards because that just seemed to make sense.
I want to set my welcome screens in the dashboard to 970 pixels wide - is there any way I can do this? eg can I convert the squares in the dashboard canvas to pixels?

There's not a way to force a size on a dashboard.
