Update existing smartsheet by excel

Hi,

I have a smartsheet with 4 columns： building code, name, cs manager name and supervisor. I create this smartsheet by import excel. Excel has 4 same columns..

However, cs manager always change. We have 1000 buildings.

Admin will send update list every week.. I know there is data live connector.. if I change info in excel (the ond i use to import smartsheet) than it change in SMARTSHEET. anyway can achieve?

Hi Peter, from my review of the Live Data connector it seems like it's more a tool for sending data from Smartsheet to tools like Excel for gathering reports. Not necessarily pulling from Excell and putting it into Smartsheets. I know that people have successfully integrated tools like Zapier. You might want to check into that.

Can you have the admin switch to updating your Smartsheet instead? Set them up as an editor?

Checked with Zapier. They say they can't do that.

My example to Zapier is: I have spreadsheet and SS with same info. Both of them include info building plan no. , building manager, account manager. I have updated spreadsheet to have right info. For example., If excel has 600 rows, 30 rows info need updated. How to use Zapier to achieve.

Zapier says i need to have 30 Zap to do changes in SmartSheet.

The email from Zapier:

In order for us to use the ROW ID, we need to the function of 'Find Row' in order to make sure we update your SmartSheets correctly. Unfortunately, it is not possible with SmartSheet's API to do this as it doesn't allow us to specify a column to be searched. So it would mean that each time you would want to update a row, you would need to create a brand new Zap for each row, which in the long run will cost you a lot and isn't sustainable to you.

Are you adding buildings or do the number stay the same?

If so, I believe I have solution. It would still require Zapier.

Craig has done some amazing things with Zapier and Smartsheet so it is more to do with a creative design than a simple yes no I believe?

Craig and our team have this week completed another integration of Excel with Smartsheet, where data travels in both directions not just FROM Smartsheet and the client is delighted . We are regularly using Appsheet for this integration and it brings other benefits too, like conditional logic.

If you want the same Peter, we can offer that integration between Excel and Smartsheet as an alternative to the Zapier solution if that doesn't work out?
