Hiding comments or columns for certain users?

We have a shared smartsheet between companies that both can edit. We would like to be able to add a private column or column for some internal communication. Using a report won't work because the other company needs to access and edit the original sheet. I have seen a lot of requests for this kind of feature, but no progress?

If you're directly sharing the sheet between the two companies, then you could hide a column as long as the external company does not have admin rights to unhide it. Pretty awkward, though, to have to hide/unhide each time.

You could setup two reports, one for each company, and the one report for your company could include the column that you want to use, but don't put that column on the other company's report. If you hide the column on the sheet, they won't know it's there at all.

You could use Dynamic View, provide the external company the view for managing their data, and don't include the confidential column.
