When selecting attachments for an Automation Workflow, we should have the option to include all the attachments in the notification email instead of sending only the last attachment if it was attached after the last save of the sheet.

Hi,
The purpose of the "Alert Someone" automation in Smartsheet is to notify specified individuals when certain conditions are met. When configuring this automation, you have the option to include different types of information in the alert message.
Currently, when selecting the option "Links to sheet and specific fields" and choosing "An attachment," the expectation is that all attachments in the corresponding row should be sent automatically. This functionality was previously operational; however, it seems to have stopped working recently.
I agree! This would be very helpful for my current workflow. I have gotten around this using a work around automation.
I agree with others.
I also vote for better attachment capabilities.
I'd like to be able to send just the attachment without sheet links in an alert. (Your request is completed, attached is what you need.)
Hello,
I’d like to open a discussion about the "Alert someone" automation feature and the current inability to send row attachments directly via this process.
Currently, under the "Alert someone" automation, there is an option to include "an attachment" as part of the "Links to sheet and specific fields" feature. However, this is misleading because attachments are only included in the alert email if the alert is triggered at the same time the attachments are uploaded. Since attachments are typically added manually or via a form, this inconsistency often results in the alert emails not including the attachments at all.
I believe this feature could be significantly improved by enabling the inclusion of row attachments in alert emails. For example, I need to send alerts to field employees (who do not have access to the sheet) to notify them of tasks for a specific job. These employees need to see the associated pictures, documents, or designs attached to the row to effectively perform their duties.
Currently, I follow the initial "Alert" email with a "Request an Update" automation, which does include the attachments. While this works to some extent, automating the inclusion of attachments in the initial "Alert" email would significantly streamline communication and improve task execution.
Flow Currently:
I’d like to explore the possibility of implementing this enhancement. I’d appreciate hearing others’ thoughts and experiences on this topic.
+1
I also need the ability to attach all documents on notifications, no matter when they were added.
I would like to have automations send attachments attached to the row when the row is being sent. I have a sheet that has orders that need to be placed, and a date column on each row for the order date. I am using the automation to "Alert someone on a specific date" and have attachments attached to the row, but when the automation runs to send out the row, it does not include attachments.
It seems like the ability to add attachments to an automation would be a basic ask. It feels like it's been overcomplicated and should be an easy function. My vote is to add this functionality ASAP.
I am using smartsheet for local groups to apply for funding. We are assessing their applications based on the information they submit on a form. I then want to generate a series of offer letters (which I can do through automation). The bit that is missing is I want to then automatically send them an email to say there is an offer letter, and for the applicant (who is not a smartsheet user) to get an email with the attachment.
Definitely would be beneficial to have the ability to send attachments directly in an email without a request for update or link to the sheet. Automation for generating documents should also allow for the option to email an update with attachment.
Just wanted to keep this request alive!
Attachment In Automation - without needing to click into Smartsheet
With utilising automations to send emails to external parties, the ability to attach a document to an automated email would greatly help the process be more accessible to public users (as we currently always have challenge with people accessing) without the need of fiddling with Sharepoint links as we currently do.
PLEASE provide this capability! I am using control center to provision my assets. There are attachment(s) in the intake sheet. When they are added to the asset they are at the 'sheet' level. I do have an update request that includes attachments, however, the attachment is not available in the update request.
Am I missing something? Shouldn't the attachment be available in the Update Request?
Hi @PeggyLang,
Yes, it would be great to have the ability to choose to include sheet-level attachments in the Update Request.
To @Jennifer Workman's point, I have started using largely 'message only' Update Requests using {{placeholders}} as an ongoing workaround to this deficiency in Alerts.
It would be even better if we could specify a particular attachment (by filename or workflow?) to include, but this is probably a bridge too far.
I voted your comment, but have you you formally submitted the idea?
@fcooke I just submmitted the Product Idea for Update Requests to include sheet level attachments.
When setting up automation, have the option to include the physical attachment (file) shared for a given line item in Smart Sheet.
This will help users view files without needing to log in to Smart Sheets and click on links to download (extra steps) and view the file.
Simplifying an approval process
Thank you
I have a workflow with nearly 40 automations, half of which are email-based requests for updates with various sets of triggers. While I know the automations work, due to months of testing, when our system went live to the institution, I became very worried that the automations wouldn't run and I'd have no idea whether or…
Description: When users upload multiple photos in one action via the Smartsheet iOS mobile app, all files are assigned the same generic name and timestamp. I am proposing bringing a bit of pizzazz to Smartsheet by having celebratory animations for certain criteria. Think Joyful Animations in Outlook! My team was hoping to have some sort of confetti pop/gif/image when we close out a project or hit a milestone. Bonus points if it is configurable like the automations are.
