customize swimlanes - "group by" feature should not show swimlane/s if that field is empty on all rows in a given filter, or at least give the option to show or hide.

Agree - thought I was missing something, but this should definitely be the case.
Workaround I've employed (untenable in most situations) is to remove the options from the drop down column itself temporarily.
I'm actually looking for the opposite, where I always want to show the lanes in the timeline view, even if the current screen is showing a time range where that lane has no bar landing in that range. It currently removes those rows in the view and I don't see the 'Show empty lanes' toggle mentioned above where I could toggle it off.
