Is there really no way to copy/paste a contact column to create a contact group?

Hi, I feel like I am eating crazy pills here, but is there really no way to copy contacts in a Smartsheet worksheet contact column into a Smartsheet contact group without jumping through insane workarounds?

My contact column must allow for multiple contacts / cell. It uses the company directory, so it doesn't only have straight up emails in it. It has contacts that appear as John Smith and when one hovers over it, they see the title and email <j.smith@company.com>.

When I try to copy/paste these contacts in group management, it doesn't like them because they paste without commas separating cells. When I try to export to excel, it only exports names in the cells, but not emails. Yes, I can create workarounds that pull emails as text from a separate worksheet, but this seems unnecessarily inelegant. I am also working with thousands of rows of data here that I want to be able to filter/segment and create contact groups from.

Am I missing an obvious solution?

    Hi @vakhanka,

You're not crazy. You've correctly identified the behavior. There will be names instead of emails, and there won't be commas separating them. Unfortunately, I don't believe there's an obvious or built-in solution to help with that.

I do believe a workaround would be required to accomplish this.

    All the best,
