Smartsheet TAM confirmed for me that we can't have an Automation change a cell value if the column type is a checkbox for the icons for either a Flag or Star. Can this be an enhancement request?

+1 for this idea!
This is a no brainer, hopefully this gets implemented. 😃 Great suggestion.
Agreed Star/Flag may have other significance on a sheet but it should be a checkbox option for automation. Can we please get an update on this fix. (I am working in gov version so I would hope the fix would be for all versions)
The Checkbox column type is effectively a 'Boolean' (i.e. 1/0, true/false, on/off) type of column.
Whether it is displayed with a blue tick in a box, a red flag, or a yellow star is a matter of style/format, etc.
It SHOULD NOT affect its treatment (inclusion/exclusion) in Automation actions. I agree with @Nathan E, this is more of a bug than a feature request. And I agree with @sheetsmartsarah, that they are used differently: • blue Checks for something you actively want/have switched on, or to indicates a positive condition • red Flags for things you actively don't want/require, have switched off, or to indicate a negative/error condition • yellow Stars to highlight or include something, or not
@Genevieve P. , can we please have this 'anomaly' fixed? This problem has been raised multiple times in different threads and should be treated as a correction of errant behaviour, not treated as a product idea for improvement that has to wait for the next roadmap update. A Product Idea for improvement would be to allow multiple Change Cell or Clear Cell actions to follow each other, like some of the other actions.
@Andrée Starå, @Paul Newcome, could you please get behind this and help vote up/support a Product Fix?
Bumping this as a continuing bug. What's even crazier than this not being treated as a simple boolean in the Action of an automation is that it is treated as simple boolean in the Condition of the automation, even as a flag or star, which means it's probably literally just a line of code that's not being copied over. For now I just resigned myself to my checkbox fate and the automation allows it. 😑
It would be great to have the ability to set up a change cell value automation on a checkbox column when the style of the column is set to either a star or flag. Currently, the change cell value automation only works on checkbox columns when the style is set to a box. And if you have a change cell value automation already set up on a checkbox column and then change the column to display as a star or flag, the workflow will become disabled.
Hi, I also have this issue.
Smartsheets, can you please update this?
Would also appreciate this. It is a little annoying to do the formula.
This seems like it would be simple to fix since the checkbox already works…
Please allow the templated workflow automation for "change cell" to include columns that are formatted as symbols. Screenshot below.
Example: When I populate a "completion date" for a task, I would like the symbol column to AUTOMATICALLY change to blue, representing completion.
These "heatmap" style visuals have become more critical, especially b/c people tend not to read and they want to look for colors….red, is urgent/needs attention. yellow is risky, green in on schedule and blue is completed. These seem like fairly standard things.
i doubt this will ever "Come to fruition" since the last update was in late 2023. Guess we just have to use our own tricks (formulas/helper columns etc.) to create this simple/basic request. 🙄
I rely heavily on Smartsheet’s Document Generation. However, this workflow is currently dependent on having photos stored inside cells, since row attachments alone cannot be used directly in document generation.. If Smartsheet allowed attachments to be displayed as thumbnails in cells (as a reference), document generation…
I’d like to see user analytics for WorkApps. I’ve checked the user report available in the Collaborator Pack, but it only shows how many times someone has clicked into the WorkApp each month. I’d like to know: Which resources (dashboards, sheets, forms, etc.) are getting the most traffic? Where are people spending their…
Hi There, I would like to propose that Smartsheet considers the email subject header that is received from a Smartsheet notification from a form or sheet. Currently, because not everyone in my company has Smartsheet, let alone a Smartsheet log-in, we need to send show the name of the owner of the sheet, that appears on the…
