restrict users from editing curtain fields

Is there a way to restrict certain users from editing curtain fields?

For example, we are using Smartsheet so users can enter info waiting for approval, but we want only admin should be able to mark off "check box" for approvals.

Yes, there are a couple methods to accomplish this.

1) As long as people are not shared as admins, you can lock a column to prevent editors from editing that column. 

2) You could create a report that doesn't contain the columns that you don't want them to edit and have them just function in the report. This method doesn't prevent them from opening the original sheet and making changes there, but it does take the focus away from the columns they shouldn't be editing.
