Request for Smartsheet: consistent use of terms

I am creating an online course for Smartsheet and notice again (an many times before) that the use of Notification/alerts/reminders is very confusing in the helpfiles and the interrface. I understand what you mean but would it not be better to just use the terms in a clear and consistent manner in helpfiles/videos and interface?

    Victor, I would be happy to pass along your suggestions to the Marketing team! Could you provide me with specific examples about where you are seeing inconsistencies and what they are? Please include URLs and point out specific wording/sentences. Thanks!

    Two point that I noticed. 

     

    Assumption: Alerts is the parent term for notifications and reminders. Ok? 

     

    - Why is the supporting video called Alerts and Reminders? While the video is talking about reminders and notifications. 

     

    - Why can one only set a reminder at the level of a row while the symbol (bell) in the 'i' column sugest that we can set alerts (as in the lower tab)

     

    What is the role of the Request for update - is this not also an alert (of type reminder), especially when it is set to be period?

     

    I hope you see my point.

    Alerts is the parent term and the video goes over notifications and reminders. I agree the video's title is a little confusing. I just emailed our video team the feedback. Thanks for pointing this out!

     

    Could you clarify your second point? You can set row level reminders through the "i" column or by right clicking on a row number and selecting Set Reminder. Through the Alerts tab at the bottom of your sheet, you can create sheet level reminders. 

     

    Update requests are used to submit a request to users to update a row or group of rows. Some users might use this as a recurring reminder but reminders and update requests are to different features. Reminders are used to remind or alert Smartsheet users of tasks they are assigned to while update requests are used to request and update from anyone (Smartsheet user or not) on rows or group of rows.
