Cell Linking

I have watched many videos but cannot seem to master the cell linking between sheets. I've tried multiple ways but never receive the results I'm looking for. I have a project on a sheet Named Eblasts and it has subcategories of Months of Year and then Tasks subcategorized under that. I would like to link the whole Eblast Project to another sheet. If anything is added to any of the months under eblasts I would like it to update in my other sheet. Is this possible, if so can you tell me how? Also when I link it does not carry hierarchy or formatting over. I've tried copying the data over and then linking but that was not very successful either, especially since it is a lot of data.

  • Hi Renee,

It sounds like you're wanting to link entire sheets together such that when you add a row to one sheet, it gets copied to another sheet.

Cell linking is performed on the cell level, and at this time, won't automatically include new rows that you've added to your eblasts sheet (you'll have to manually create new links for that).

We have a help center article detailing the cell linking process here: https://help.smartsheet.com/articles/861579-cell-linking

You'll also need to re-create any formatting (including hierarchy) on your destination sheet in accordance with that of your source sheet, as the formatting won't automatically update over—only the core value from the source cell.

Another alternative to explore is creating a report that can pull in data from multiple sheets, including new rows. Hierarchy won't come over in a report, but it may be an easier solution: https://help.smartsheet.com/articles/522214-creating-reports
