Building Notifications

I want to set a notification when a cell is populated but only one time to let the recipient know the action is in progress, then cease when the action is completed.  It seems that my recipient will receive the notification every time a change is made in any column of the row once that cell is populated.    My sheet has over 40 columns, so I would rather not reference all of the other columns in the rule, and the sheet is populated by a form, so I would rather not have any formulas in cells.

  • Hi Randy,

Try setting up a notification that will only trigger when the status is set to in progress.

You can do this under Alerts & Actions (menu bar) > Manage Alerts & Actions.

In the dropdowns select Send Notification and When there are changes in specific columns.

Then create a notification similar to the example in my screenshot.

My example notification rule will send a notification to a contact in a System (Created by) column when the value of the Status column in my sheet changes to In progress.
