If I send an automated alert or update request to someone's inbox, and they reply directly to the email (so they're sending it to automation@smartsheet), who will it go to? I don't see them getting an email from Mailer Daemon.

Thanks for your post! Currently, automation@smartsheet.com is essentially an email generator and nothing more, so replying to the email serves no function. If you'd like to submit a Product Enhancement request, you can use this link or select the quick link to the right: Submit Product Enhancement Request
In the meantime, I recommend utilizing Approval Requests. With an Approval Request, they'll still be able to see all of the information in the alert, and they can submit a comment which will populate the original sheet if needed. Additional resources below:

Good day, Is it possible to link a form drop-down list to a column in a sheet, so that the drop-down values update automatically whenever that column changes? In other words, if items are added or removed in the column, the form’s drop-down list would update without needing manual adjustments.
