Replies to a comment do not send notifications?

Someone posted a comment to me and I was notified because he used the @.
I hit the reply button on the comment and he was not notified of my reply.
In order for notifications to go out - you must use the @?
Seems like a reply should trigger an alert automatically...
I also don't see a way to set up an alert using the creator of the comment (can send an alert if a comment changes, but the it needs to go to someone listed in the sheet...not the person creating the comment).
Is there a way to do this - without having to use the @ - that I am missing?
(to note: cannot use the Update Request feature as this comment is on a Report)

Hi Allison,
Unfortunately, you have to use @ to send a notification if there isn't a rule set up to send regardless. Great idea!
Please submit an Enhancement Request when you have a moment.
there isn't a way to select as a commenter to receive any changes or answers. That is another great idea!
Please submit an Enhancement Request when you have a moment.
I hope this helps you!
Have a fantastic week!

Has this enhancement been deployed? The ability to only notify the people making or replying to comments versus everyone being notified?
-
I was also wondering if these enhancements have been considered? People should be notified if someone is replying to their comment/conversation (even if the @ mentions are not used). I have been missing many replies and conversations because of this.

Agreed. This is a must have feature.
