Email address (mailto: link) in Dashboards
Hi -
Have there been any updates on being able to enter an email address (mailto: link) in Dashboards.
I would like to add Key Contacts for the project in a Rich Text Widget and include links to emails for those contacts. I've tried but have not been successful.
Any possible workarounds?
Thanks,
Jan P

Hi,
You can try to do it this way:
- Create email link like mailto:youaddress@domain.com
- Shorten it with bitly.com
- Paste shortened link into your sheet
- Or alternatively paste it under some icon in your dashboard as an interaction -> Go to a URL...
Please let me know if this work for you.
Best regards
Marcin

I'm having this trouble too. I tried bit.ly as @Marcin C suggested, but bit.ly doesn't seem to want to shorten mailto:emailaddresses.

Hi,
Ok then, try another one. Just tried to shorten my email address and seems work fine:

Hi,
But are they safe? I mean I have also created a couple using site such as https://is.gd/ however I have my own doubt(s) on how safe it is when it comes to hacking/cyber security..Just wondering..
Thanks!

Hi,
I can't think of any reasons they shouldn't be safe. The only thing I can think of is that the service would collect the email address and use them for spam, possibly.
Have a fantastic week!

Adding someones email to an external database can make that person susceptible to social engineering attacks not just spam. This particularly true of the owner of the email is unaware their email has been shared. Most URL shortening services have very poor security as well.
Of course, there are many ways to get someones email address, but making it easier must be weighed against the risk

The lack of support for basic features like embedded email links and a truly crappy file and folder permissions scheme among a huge list of slightly less significant important features is why I am looking for a new platform.

Is there any movement on MailTo? This is a feature we use constantly and the workarounds are a hassle. I've put in an Enhancement request already. Hoping we could get an update on this.

Having this same issue. This thread is a little old, I'm hoping there has been some type of a fix for this that I haven't found yet.
Thanks

Agreed. I want to embed email addresses for key contacts on dashboards. Smartsheet?

I would like to do this as well. Adding email address with mailto: in front does not create a URL considered valid by Smartsheet widget.

I am surprised this does not seem to be an option with the feedback boxes included in most templates.
It seems easy enough to create a 'feedback' sheet and corresponding form, which could be set to email responses to the desired email address. However, it is still a lot of work when a simple mailto link might suffice.
Security and compliance are high priorities for us, so none of these workarounds would be appropriate.

Is there a way to track down user enhancement requests? I'd like to put my vote toward Jennifer G.'s request. This is functionality that should exist without having to go through some potentially unsafe work around.

I worked with a competitive software and it was a simple HTML Field that could have calculations in.
I think Smartsheet could easily implement this.. by creating an HTML column and rendering everything in that column
The power of doing it that way is you can then put formulas in..
=<a href="mailto:" +[Owner]@row +"subject=Updated%20documents%20for%20%5B" + [Site Name]@row+"%5D&body=Please%20reference%20our%20new%20documents"> New Documents for + [Site Name]@row +"</a>"
Then the old software would generate and email and use the fields to generate it.
It took updates of our national program documentation from 2 days to about 2 hours with a coffee in my hand
You could also create links from smartsheet to other items based on formulas.. very poowerful
