What does ''deadline'' do?

So I entered the deadline for a summary task, but it does not seem to do anything except being entered.

It's not visible in the Gannt, nor does it stop me from dragging anything beyond the deadline.

 

What am I doing wrong?

Hi,

Smartsheet does not have a Deadline function like MS Project.

Is this a Sheet somebody in your organisation created?  If so then it is probably just a an extra date column to advise people of the deadline date. You could create conditional formatting thatwould highlight it if your task exceeds it. Alternativly you could create a Flag column with a calculation in it to flag as red when the end date is greated than the deadline date.
