Auto move column info
I'll try to explain the best I can. I have a customer who will view only a summary sheet in Smartsheet. This info is pulling from various cells in individual Smartsheet store pages that they cannot see. This summary is set up in a "One store per Column" arrangement. As the store page info is populated, various info hyperlinks over into a column on the summary page, as task are completed. When I start a new store page I don't want to overwrite existing info or redo all the formulas to now the next column over and so forth. Can the info that hyperlinks over to say column B trigger the next store page I fill up to automatically go to C then D, E F? If I need to switch this to rows, I can easily. Maybe Smartsheet can move my summary hyperlinked info to the right into C from B when info from a new store sheet is sent over. What seems obvious might likely not be available. Also, if there is a way to do this, will the formula transfer as well? If I go back to change a page, will it find its new home in the new column. Thanks

It does sound like it may be easier to work with if it were row by row instead of column by column.

I can turn it that way. Thanks. Its the automation I cant figure out. I enter info on one sheet and it populates on row...5 lets say in the summary. The next day I enter info on a new sheet and the previous days info bumps down to 6 and the new info shows up on 5.

Ah. Ok. I am understanding a little more now. Transferring (or duplicating) a new row from one sheet to another has to be done manually. Would doing things in the opposite direction be an option? Use a form to populate a master sheet with all data then pull reports and summaries from that one?
-
It would but the summary is for the clients viewing and has limited info. If I filled in 30 data points on the client sheet, 10 of them pop up on the summary. Copying and pasting will be time restrictive and constantly adding or changing formulas would be worse. I read a thread a couple weeks ago about a way to tell Smartsheet that if as cell is occupied then move to the next row or column. I think that might work or at least I can try and create a rule to make my part easier. I just cant find that thread.

That would be part of forms. You can either have the form populate at the top or bottom of the sheet.
Building a master sheet with all of the data on it would allow you to pull a report with specific data based on specific criteria and only show columns that you specify. Those reports could be your client facing summaries. Other sheets can also be set up with flexible formulas that could be used for many other things.

Yea but is using the same summary sheet for the same customer getting data from multiple sheets. Sheet A has some info going to line 1 in the summary. Sheet B send its info to line 2 in the summary.
Or
Sheet A info goes to line 1, B sees info in 1 and bumbs that to line 2 and new info goes to 1. C bumbs those down and puts its on 1.
Ugh, frustrating. Your note about populating at the top or bottom, does this fit in my explanation? Sometimes I wish I had Lotus 123 back!

Here's kind of what I'm thinking...
.
Master sheet containing ALL data (with new data possibly being added via form to maintain consistency)
Report A is built off of specific criteria for Client A from Master and is sorted so that the most recent data is at the top.
Report B is built off of specific criteria for Client B from Master and is sorted so that the most recent data is at the top.
Report C is built off of specific criteria for Client C from Master and is sorted so that the most recent data is at the top.
.
Instead of using a bunch of sheets to populate one, use one to populate a bunch.
If you need counts or summaries from across all sheets, those data points can easily be pulled from the Master (much easier than trying to summarize on each sheet then collecting them on another).

I wish I could do it that way. A, B and C have the same structure (sheet layout) but are of different locations. Info from other areas is use to fill these. I've offered my client a summary page that takes a few important points from each sheet (A, B and C) and list it on a summary for quick viewing. I sold before I could make it.
I guess I will need to manually move A's summary info down to the next line before I populate B or B will over write that info.

Hi,
This part could probably be automated with the help of a third-party service like Zapier or similar.
Would that work?
Have a fantastic week!

Paul,
Beware that the if they can view the report they can view the sheet and other columns.

Hi,
You could show the information on a dashboard instead.
Would that work?

Ugh. I am always forgetting that little detail. The reports I build are for people who actually NEED at least Viewer access to the source sheet(s), so I never really need to think about that side of things.
Thanks for the reminder.

How are you thinking to have it on a dashboard? I'm curious now...
-
If my summary can be called a dashboard then yes. I use then on other programs but I lack the formula to do so.

Hi,
I've completely missed your post. Did you get a solution set up?
Have a fantastic week!
