I'd like to apply different weightings based on a staff members role on the staff sheet.  I have a weightings sheet that defines the weighting for each task per role.

I can't work out how to write an if statement that says, if the staff role (staff sheet) matches the staff role (weightings sheet), then use this row of weightings.

Would love some assistance

    Hi Sally

I believe a VLOOKUP function is required for this.  If you type =VLOOKUP( then a Smartsheet helpful function builder will open, you will need to use the "reference another sheet" link to refer to a lookup table on the sheet with all the weightings on and use a column count to return the value that you require.

One thing to be mindful of when using a VLOOKUP function is that the table that you are using to match and return values from (i.e. the weighting sheet) the column to match against (i.e. staff role) will need to be next to the value you want returned. (ie weighting)  You cannot link to non-contiguous columns in a lookup table.

Happy to help further if you need it.

    Kind regards
