Dashboard - How to create a metric that will display a Count of data in a column?

Good Afternoon,

I am new to dashboards. I am trying to use an existing Smartsheet with data and would like the dashboard to display a count of how many individuals are listed in column 1 on the sheet. Is this possible and if yes, how do I set it up? Do I have to have the count built into the sheet for it to display on the dashboard?

Do you want to count all the individuals or do you want to show them separated?
