Copy Conditional Formatting...

Is it possible to copy the conditional formating from one row to another row?  For example I have rules setup for column A.  Column B contains the same data... can I copy the rules about column A to column B?

Not exactly. You can clone the rule, but you will need to deselect Column A and choose Column B when you clone the rule.

See the drop down on the rule for the "clone" function.

    +1 to copying conditional formatting.

  • Hi Brad-- Can you confirm exactly what you mean by "copying conditional formatting"? As we already offer the ability to clone rules, I'm not sure exactly what you'd be looking for in terms of either improving the existing functionality or implementing something new. Thanks!

It likens to other posts in some ways.  It would be implementing something new.

What I mean is that currently if I want to clone rules, I do them one rule at a time and one column at a time.  What a pain that becomes if you want the rules applied to all 20 columns in the sheet.  200 cloning and definition operations.

Let's say I have 10 rules applied to column one.  What if I could just copy/clone all the rules from column 1 to column 2 by clicking and dragging, or by format painting from 1 to 2, or by simply copy/pasting column 1 and then magically all of the rules that exist on column 1 will be automatically copied/translated to the newly created column.  The last would be the best, I think.

  • This is really needed! Not just to copy conditional formatting to different colomns in a sheet, but also to different sheets. Basically, Smartsheets needs a 'format paste' function which copies conditional formatting and other formats betweeen any sheet/cell.

  • +1 on this last comment - SS needs to make the formatting rules "portable" so they can be easily moved/applied to different parts of a sheet but even more important (at least for me), to different sheets.
