Can you have a character limit in a Web Form text box?

Is it possible to have a character limit in a text box within a Web Form? We've limited the number of lines to three, but would rather limit to a specific character count. Appreciate any insight!

Hello! There isn’t a way to set a character limit in a web form text field. The current limit is the save as a cell in your sheet, which is 4,000 characters.

We would find this VERY beneficial to be able to place a character limit on specific cells/form fields!

Would still love this feature or alternatively a formula to perhaps bolden or highlight cells that have, for example, more than 80 characters.

  • I would also vote for allowing a character count on specific cells/columns - especially with using row updates and web forms.

As an update - we ended up using the LEN formula in a secondary column and then set up conditional formatting to tell us when that length count went above 80 characters. It now bolds the data in the cell and changes it to red to stick out. Haven't perfected it to continue as we receive web form entries (I think I'm doing something wrong) but works for now!

  • Does anyone have updates on this? Would definitely be a useful feature!

  • This is something that my company would also be interested in. If you are not able to collect precise data from the web form entry whats the use? Not allowing limited characters allows the submitter to enter invalid data thus creating the admin unneeded headaches.
