find and replace text in an already created update request.
I have update requests set for each employee's annual review. I would like to change one bit of text in the preformatted email. Is there a way to do this? Specifically, the line reads:
Contact Mary Beth or Jesse.
I would like to remove 'Mary Beth or'
Is there a way to do this without opening each request individually and manually removing the text?
Thanks in advance.

If you have their names in a column in the sheet, in the alert you can reference the column with {{Manger Name}}. I know this works 100% in the Subject field, but you can test it in the alert text as well.

Hi,
Ella is correct, and it works with both the subject and the alert area.
Hope that helps!
Have a fantastic week!

So in order to remove a name from already set update requests, I can put the name in a blank column cell, reference it and it will remove the name? (I'm somewhat of a newbie with SS)
-
It depends!
If you have an automated workflow request update set up, you can set it, so it sends it to a contact on the row it triggers for.
Make sense?

I'm not sure. I am not trying to send the request to a different person, I am trying to remove a person's name from the body of the message. Pehaps I should give more info:
I have 85 employee rows- each with their own update request to be sent to them on their hire anniversary date. The message asks them set up an annual review with either Marybeth or Jesse.
I need to remove 'Jesse' in some of them and 'Marybeth' in others.
and by the way, thank you both for taking the time to help!

Add a new column to your sheet and populate Jesse or Marybeth based on whom each employee has to contact. Then, reference this column in your Update Request.
So your message text will be:
Contact {{Name of the new Column}}. Behind the scenes Smartsheet will pull the correct name once it sends it.
I hope this helps.

I'd recommend creating a new Automation Workflow with placeholders from the sheet instead. It will be much simpler to keep up to date.
